Dav's Big Night

Friday night I was off to celebrate Dav’s birthday. I was rather excited as I had not been out – to a bar/club – for a long, long time and Dav and I never get together as often as I wished. It was great to see him again and looking so well for somebody fast approaching 40! I did get very drunk, very quickly though as regular readers will know I am a stranger strong liquor. It didn’t help that I was coming down with a cold. Typical, it was fast approaching becoming the nicest weekend of the year so far.

Spin Doctor

I have been working harder than normal in the pool recently and the results are slowly – very slowly – beginning to show. The biggest change to my swimming pattern are what they call ‘tumble turns’ or ‘flip turns’. I started doing them mainly because I was getting a terrible pain in my elbow and I couldn’t fathom what was causing it. Leaning on my desk? Self abuse? Or was my freestyle simply too harsh? I was pondering this as I turned in the pool one morning and realised that I was using the same are to heave my massive frame around in the pool – no wonder it was beginning to feel the strain! Anyhow, I realised that there was no way around this but to ‘tumble turn’. I am sure that I look ridiculous but I am very proud that I did it without lead up or tuition. It certainly doesn’t come naturally! Here is a short video I ASPIRE too – I hasten to add my turns don’t look anything like this yet, but I am nothing if not determined.
